Charming cottages, in Périgord Noir, the most beautiful region of France

The Maison de Lassagne is located 5 minutes away from Sarlat in the heart of the Périgord Noir and less than 15 minutes from the Dordogne valley and its famous castles: Beynac (where "Les Visiteurs" was filmed), Castelnaud, les Milandes (Joséphine Baker's residence), the superb gardens of Marqueyssacand the sumptuous gardens of the Manoir d'Eyrignac, the Jardins d'Eaux de Carsac-Aillac and the Jardins de l'Imaginaire in Terrasson... You can visit its listed villages; La Roque Gageac and its cliffs or Domme and its famous cave with concretions, Monpazier, Saint Jean de Côle, Saint Amand de Coly...

It takes just 30 minutes to discover the Vézère valley and its world-renowned prehistoric sites. Admire the most beautiful prehistoric paintings from Lascaux to Montignac, Font de Gaume to Les Eyzies and those of Magdeleine. You can also visit the cave of Rouffignac and its "bear nests", as well as La Roque Saint-Christophe and its troglodyte village, inhabited from Prehistory to the present day.

The pretty blond stone villages are carefully restored, the churches are charming, flowers brighten up the landscape everywhere. The Dordogne and Vézère rivers meander through unspoilt nature, between lush banks and blond cliffs, castles and fortresses from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance.

The Périgord Noir is full of sites that will make children's eyes shine! Since the 1990s, tourism has really taken families into account. Each place offers a "special child" adaptation: medieval games, raptor shows, prehistoric workshops, treasure hunting, animal feeding and farm snacks, sounds and lights, interactive tablets, stories and legends, theatre in period costumes, bicycle rides on the greenway, boat rides ("Gabarres") or canoeing on the Dordogne or Vézère rivers.

Please note that the Maison de Lassagne is located 1 hour by car from Rocamadour and Le Gouffre de Padirac, 45 min from Bergerac and Périgueux, 2h30 from Bordeaux.

We will provide the necessary recommendations for you to enjoy a taste of the region's gastronomy. With this information, you can enjoy an omelette with mushrooms or truffles, asparagus, foie gras, duck in all its forms, Sarlat apples and for dessert lovers; walnut cake, sweet chestnut cake, Dordogne strawberries (Mara des bois et Gariguettes) etc.... Sarlat

A mythical place!

Labelled "City of art and history", "city of charm and character among the most seductive in France", "medieval jewel", "fantastic architectural dive into history", the expressions abound but are not usurped according to the ‘Guide du Routard’. Sarlat will enchant you day and night. Stroll through the maze of its medieval streets, passages and alleys, you will be amazed by its Gothic or Renaissance mansions. Sarlat has been used as a backdrop for many films ("Le chocolat", "Jeanne d'Arc", "les Misérables", ...), and even inspired the Disney Studios (La Belle et la Bête in 2017). Enjoy the 2 weekly markets from early in the morning, linger on the shaded terraces in the middle of the day, admire the nuances of the blond stone at sunset. In the evening, immerse yourself in the mystery of Sarlat in the light of the streetlights...

Capital of the truffles, Sarlat hosts the Truffle Festival and its culinary academy in mid-January but also the award-winning Fat and Truffle Market in December. In addition, from November to March, two truffle markets are held each week.

The Festival des Jeux du Théâtre takes place from mid-July to early August.
